Abstract | With utilizing higher penetration level of wind power, wind power is exerting an increasing influence on power systems. It is necessary to study the impact of wind power on small signal stability of power systems. Damping level of low frequency electromechanical oscillation mode (EOM) is significant for secure and stable operation of power systems. Using the method of eigenvalue analysis, the paper investigates the impact of different kinds of wind power generators on damping characteristic of EOM. Two small test power systems are first built to simplify theoretical analysis. Then, the impact of capacity of wind farm and operating point of different wind power generators are studied under the proposed test systems. Finally, an actual power system in China is used to analyze the damping characteristic of inter-area EOM with increasing penetration of wind power, which obtains the same conclusion with the test systems. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
