Abstract | This paper is to derive the optimal planning of protective relay schemes for a transmission network by immune algorithm. The historical data of protective relay malfunction in Taipower has been used to determine the failure rate and repair rate of each type of protective relays in Taipower system. The Markov models of protective relays are determined and integrated with the transmission network to solve the customer service interruption due to protection relay malfunction for each substation. According to the load composition and service interruption cost of customers served, the outage cost of each substation is calculated- The objective function of system reliability cost is then formulated by considering the customer interruption cost of all substations and the investment cost of protective relay systems. By minimizing the system reliability cost with the proposed IA algorithm, the optimal planning of protective relay system is therefore obtained to achieve the best cost effectiveness of protection relay investment |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
