Abstract | Spindle-type $α-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ nanoparticles have been synthesized via a hydrothermal method, using $Fe(NO_{3})_{3},$ $NH_{4}Cl$ and ethylene glycol as starting precursors. The resultant products were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results indicate that the synthesized individual spindle-type $α-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ nanoparticles are single crystals, and their hysteresis loops show that they have two kinds of magnetic properties, diamagnetism and paramagnetism |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
