Abstract | This paper describes a detailed modelling procedure for a transient analysis of the transmission lines. A 110 kV shielded transmission line is modelled using ElectroMagnetic Transient Program - Restructured Version (EMTP - RV). The importance of a computer as a tool in power system transient analysis is emphasized in this paper. Some parts of the transmission line, such as the transmission line towers and the stations on the both ends of the line, are modelled thanks to the EMTP - RVs possibility of grouping electrical elements into subcircuits. It was also possible to create a subcircuit that consists of a number of other subcircuits. This possibility was very important for dividing the transmission line into a number of sections that consist of a number of towers. Flashover current, short circuit currents, voltages on the both ends of the transmission line, voltages at the fault point, voltage on the tower top and the arrester energy duty due to the bipolar lightning stroke are calculated and presented. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
