Abstract | This research proposed a new torque distribution strategy for parallel hybrid electric vehicles, which incorporates a driving characteristics identifier whose role is to identify the driver behaviors as well as the current driving mode. Five drivers have been used to investigate characteristics of driver's behavior in following a preceding vehicle situation by using driving simulator. The driver behavior in traffic was modeled as a linear vehicle following model, and the driver-vehicle longitudinal characteristics have been analyzed. The relationship between the driver parameters and fuel consumption shows that the driver factors have considerable effect on fuel consumption. This information is subsequently integrated in a torque distribution and state of charge compensation strategy to provide enhanced operation over different driving characteristics. Potential fuel economy improvement is shown by considering the driver behavior in torque distribution strategy compared to other controllers, which did not deal with the change in driving characteristics. The simulation study reveals that the proposed torque distribution strategy considering driving characteristics provides a platform of new energy management system and gives improved performance of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
