Abstract | Abstract—Ethernet passive optical networks (EPONs) technology has emerged as a promising candidate for nextgeneration broadband access networks. Aiming at the upstream TDMA mechanism in EPON system, this paper proposes a dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme, called share-based multiple traffic prediction (SMTP), which supports traffic estimation and bandwidth pre-allocation. Theoretical analysis and simulation results verify the feasibility of SMTP by showing that SMTP outperforms other existing schemes with respect to Quality-of-Service (QoS) metrics of data delay and channel utilization. Index Terms-SMTP, dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA), EPON I. |
